Who are we
The Foundation Friends of Poehaa is a non-profit organization that encourages cultural and social development, specifically circus theater. The foundation is member of Circomundo, the Dutch national organization for youth circus education.
Our starting point is the cultural inheritance of the former organization “Circus Poehaa”. This circus provided performances, education and talent development for a wide variety of people, coming from different cultures and different social classes. By using circus people will connect. Working and learning together, trusting each other without the burden of cultural, religious or political background.
In their way of working they aimed for an open state of mind, by using following statements :
- say “yes” to what is offered
- use the positive energy of the ones your playing with
- do not capture yourself
- you as well as your public deserve to experience every situation as a new one.
- be serious to yourself and to your audience
- use your humor
- use your creativity by using your experience
We joined the project “Non-verbal communication, a chance for social circus” with the Galilee Circus in Karmiel (Israël) because their goal appeals to us: joining Jewish and Arab children in circus activities, disregarding cultural and religious differences. It teaches children that looking beyond the prejudice will show that 'the other' is a human being just like you are. It shows that every child longs for happiness, joy and safety and we want to help achieve that.
Statute Foundation Friends of Poehaa
We think that circus provides the perfect context for children and youngsters to work together and to gain trust. Learn to trust yourself in order to develop your talents. Trust your fellow artists. Learn that you can rely on them. Creating great performances together.
Working with mixed cultures is a challenge, but we like it. In that way we can help to create a safer world in which every human being can move around freely. Circus connects people. Solidarity and mutual understanding are created using circus as a communication tool. Even when language is a barrier, circus is a way to talk with your body.
Mission and Objectives
The Foundation promotes art-education in general and more specific circus and theater.
